Who are the PPSA?

Our PPSA

What is the PPSA and how is it organized

The Petworth Primary School Association (PPSA) members are our parents and carers. Every parent, who has a child attending our school, automatically becomes a member. Each year, in September, a committee of parents is elected (Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary and Treasurer). The PPSA usually meet once every half term to organize individual events.

How do we raise money?

Our PPSA organize events providing great opportunities for parents, staff and pupils to get together in a social capacity to raise additional funds for the benefit of the children and our school. It is a very rewarding time as you know everything you do will benefit the children at our school. We raise money through holding events. The Christmas and Summer Fairs are the biggest events with smaller events, such as evening discos, which are arranged during the school academic year.

How is the money spent?

Funds raised by the PPSA are intended to provide ‘extras’ not already provided by the school's main income – often 'fun things' that make learning more interesting and exciting e.g. pantos, computer equipment, contributed to the school farm, playground equipment and books.

The committee, and Mr Galvin, decide how to spend the funds. We have supported the school with large needs such as providing the shaded areas and developing the outdoor learning opportunities. We also fund the annual pantomime at Christmas. Smaller help comes in the form of subsiding trips during term time and prizes throughout the year for various competitions.

How can I be involved?

You can help in many different ways! Whether you have lots of time to offer or not as much. Some of the roles are more time-consuming, although also very rewarding. If you cannot commit to a big job, look out for things you can do less frequently e.g. running a stall at the summer fair or baking for a cake sale. You can always support the events by simply turning up!
